A shoe taps impatiently. V sighs, clearly exasperated.

V
Where is he? We were supposed to begin an hour ago! (tuts under their breath) Typical, lazy...(Calling out)Ryan!

RYAN
(from another room) Yes?

V
RYAN!!

RYAN
(clamoring can be heard before he speaks into the room)
I was in the middle of something--

V
Nevermind that, you can dig for bones later. Right now I need you to venture out to fetch Mr. Grotti, and return him here so we can make this record.

RYAN
Humpf! Sure, easy enough.
(pause)

V
What.

RYAN
You gonna summon that new guy? The pinkerton?

V
Oh, do you mean Emil?

RYAN
He’s old sweat for sure

V
He’s already here.

EMIL
Hey.

RYAN
(snarling)


V (simultaneously) EMILE
(fussing) Ryan! --- Hey! No need for violence, now.

RYAN
I really hate that you don’t have a scent, you--

V (interjecting)
Please, we don’t have time for this.

(a few footsteps towards the door that they open. More footsteps as Ryan walks out during V’s following line...)

V
Find Grotti. Bring him here. (yelling out the door) And make it quick!

The door shuts and locks. V lets out a sigh, clasping their hands. Emil clears his throat as the ticking of the clock continues.
